Notes:
This profile portrait, in the style of a classical medallion, was used by Strange as frontispiece to later collections of his engravings, and it records a friendship with the French painter Greuze. Greuze's wash drawing, made in Paris c1760, is in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh (reproduced in Edgar Munhall, Greuze the Draftsman, London 2002, p. 86).
