"F. Bartolozzi del et sculp"; "From a Painting of Annibale Carracci / in His Majesty's Collection"
This print is one of several old master and topographical subjects which Laskey recorded in 1813 hanging on the staircase of original Hunterian Museum. It reproduces a painting bought by King George III by 1768, the date of this engraving. Annibale Carracci was a Bolognese painter, famous for his paintings there, and in Rome, especially in the Galleria of the Palazzo Farnese. His works - along with Bolognese painting in general - were always highly prized and even a small devotional work such as this represented a major acquisition for a collector in the 18th century.
