"J. Wenix pinx.t J Finlayson fecit" "Publish'd March 27th 1770" "From the Original, in the Cabinet of Her Grace the Dutchess of Northumberland; to whom the plate is most humbly dedicated by J. Finlayson. Sold by Mr Finlayson...Mr Parker, No. 82 Cornhill & Mrs Regnier, Newport Street."
From Dr. William Hunter's print collection. He seems to have bought (mainly portraits) regularly from Finlayson. However, Hunter had a painting by Weenix in his own collection so may have been interested in this work for comparison, and he was certainly connected with the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland through his work with the Society for the Encouragement of Arts. It is not clear if the mezzotints were kept loose by Hunter, framed, or bound and the album later taken apart once in the Hunterian Museum.
