From William Hunter's original collection. The Trustees catalogue under Precious Stones gives "No 19. A large Crystal of Garnet transparent but cover'd with an opaque crust which renders the planes and angles indistinct, cut thro' the middle. No. 20. A transverse section of a Similar crystal, cut and polished on both sides to shew the transparency".
