(961) MACDONALD, Margaret F. 1995 James McNeill Whistler: Drawings, Pastels and Watercolours: A Catalogue Raisonne, Yale University Press, New Haven and London
In spite of the difficulties of painting a constantly changing subject in cold and windy weather, Whistler's watercolours of fishing-boats are among his most skillful and delicate works. This scene might have been anywhere around the mouth of the Thames or the Colne. The boats cannot be identified with certainty.
Birnie Philip Gift 1935 - not lendable.
