Sea Pink or Thrift (Armeria maritima) is a common plant round the coasts of Britain. This is the only drawing in which Mackintosh has labelled the different stages of growth: bud, flower and seed. With a very densely tufted base, Thrift is a cushion plant. Mackintosh has drawn the cushion in a highly stylised manner.
