Miss Cranston and her husband Major Cochrane lived in a historic villa in Nitshill. In 1904 Mackintosh undertook the redecoration and furnishing of its principal interiors, including the drawing room. For this interior he designed a striking curved screen to enclose the couple's grand piano.
