Notes:
The large wardrobe, part of the bedroom suite designed by Mackintosh for his flat at 120 Mains Street, Glasgow, is made up of four components: base, two hanging compartments and the top panel. Its plain surfaces are enriched by the striking motif of carved stylised birds. The skin of white paint masks the cut wood, making the surface appear seamless. The image shows the item on public display in The Mackintosh House at the Hunterian Art Gallery.
