Notes:
This fireplace was designed for the dining room of the Mackintoshes' home at 120 Mains Street, Glasgow, and was brought with them to their new home, a mid-19th century terrace house in the west end of the city, in Florentine Terrace. As the chinmney-breast at Mains Street was narrower than the one there, additional shelving was added to either side to make the fireplace appear to fit. The metal finial motif was repeated in the stencilled pattern on the dining-room walls. The image shows the item on public display in the Mackintosh House at the Hunterian Art Gallery.
