Glass panel 1902
DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
lead with clear and coloured glass
69.6 x 34.5
The panel was exhibited as part of the Mackintoshes' room setting, the 'Rose Boudoir', at the important International Exhibition of Modern Decorative Art, Turin, in 1902. The design, showing a stylised 'rose lady' in profile, looking to the right, is closely related to Mackintosh's contemporaneous graphic designs. Coloured glass was regularly incorporated into Mackintosh's furniture and interiors of the early 1900s as inset panels. With these, the light filtering through would create rich and varied effects. The image shows the item on public display in The Mackintosh House at the Hunterian Art Gallery.
