Notes:
Frances MacNair's panel displays a more sophisticated technique and compositional artistry than that of her husband's companion piece (GLAHA 41311). The MacNairs were close contemporaries of Mackintosh, in the 1890s forming the 'Group of Four' with Mackintosh and Frances's sister, Margaret. The couple lived in Liverpool from 1899 to 1908. The identical subject matter and closely related format of the two ovals suggest they were conceived collaboratively. Each artist then developed and probably handcrafted their respective compositions. Bequeathed by Maureen Jubb, 1995
