Chair, for William Douglas 1904
DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
68.3 x 41.8 x 34.5
By the deceptively simple device of placing cross-pieces between the vertical slats, Mackintosh has created an interesting play of linear and spatial intersections. This chair, as well as GLAHA 41357, is based on a design for Hous'hill, Glasgow, home of Catherine Cranston. The chairs were owned by William Douglas, a painter and decorator employed by Mackintosh.
Bequeathed by George Smith, 1997
