Notes:
This design was probably for one of three metal panels incorporated in a screen by the Macdonald sisters and Herbert McNair called 'The Birth and Death of the Winds'. The design demonstrates the extreme stylisation of human form characteristic of much of these artists' works in the 1890s. The screen was made in green stained wood, and the panels in beaten brass. It no longer survives. The theme of the wind was appropriate for a piece of furniture whose purpose was to exclude draughts.
