Study for "Autumn" c.1895-9
CRE MACDONALD, Frances; (English; 1873-1921)
pencil on brown tracing paper
34.0 x 21.7
This drawing is a preliminary study for "Autumn", one of four watercolours depicting the seasons produced by Margaret and Frances Macdonald between 1897 and 1898. The apple is used as a symbol of the season and of Eve's temptation - a theme Frances Macdonald returned to in her late watercolour, "Prudence and Desire" (GLAHA 41286).
