With the design for new premises for the local paper 'The Daily Record', Mackintosh provided a utilitarian interior but on the exterior sought to overcome the restrictions of the poorly-lit narrow lanes between which it sat. He provided reflective white brick and generous fenestration. The skyline dormers and corbelled cornice derived from Scottish vernacular architecture. See also GLAHA 41303-4 and 41323-5.
