Wardrobe, for Westdel, Queen's Place, Glasgow 1898
DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
cypress, painted white, with metal handles and two beaten metal panels
207.5 x 159.8 x 56.8
The wardrobe is one of Mackintosh's most successful pieces of furniture from the 1890s. It combines white painted timber with decorative metal fixings and panels, the latter probably beaten by Mackintosh himself. See GLAHA 41700 for information on Westdel. GLAHA 41107 contains a design for the wardrobe.
