Two chairs to this design were made for the hall at Windyhill, Mackintosh's first important house, which was designed for the donors' parents. The chairs also doubled as carvers when the hall was in use as a dining area for large gatherings. The design is well constructed and has the presence of a piece of figurative sculpture.
