DES MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
oak, with ebonised handles
99.0 x 42.5 x 38.5
Mackintosh's last significant interior design commission was for the remodelling of 78 Derngate, Northampton, in 1916-17 for W.J. Bassett-Lowke. The guest bedroom was a dramatic scheme, comprising oak furniture, edged with black with blue chequers, and striking black and white striped textiles and wall coverings. Mr Bassett-Lowke described the room approvingly as 'decidedly futuristic in character'. See also GLAHA 52817 - 52826.
