The couple in this watercolour are painted against the backdrop of the Castle on Holy Island. The island, located off the north-eastern English coast, can only be reached at low tide, via an otherwise submerged causway. Holy Island was a favourite destination of the Mackintoshes in the early 1900s and this image may be Margaret's depiction of them.
