R MACKINTOSH. / 140 BATH ST - / GLASGOW -"; and inscr. t.:"AS I NOW [sic] / ART SOWAS [sic] / I AS I AM / SO SHALT / THOW BEE / Thomas Taylor does live here / sweeps chimneys clean, and is not dear / and if your chimney is on fire / he'll put it out if you require."; sketchbook's manufacturer's label stuck at t.l. corner: "MADE OF / CARTRIDGE DRAWING PAPER. / WINSOR & NEWTON, Ltd, LONDON, W."
The epitaph, which Mackintosh has transcribed as "AS I NOW ART...", should read "AS THOW ART..." It is on the west wall of the south transept of St Eadburgha, Broadway, Worcestershire. The address given is Mackintosh's work address.
