Sketchbook of a tour in Gloucestershire, Worcestershire etc., p. 14: Abbot's Grange, Church Street, Broadway, Worcestershire 1894
CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
pencil on cartridge drawing paper
inscr. t.r.: "OLD ALMS HOUSE / BROADWAY."
Abbot's Grange was not an alms-house but a 14th-century manor house built by the monks of Pershore Abbey, with Elizabethan alterations. When Mackintosh visited, it was owned by the American painter Frank Millet (1846-1912) who was the centre of the first artists' colony in Broadway. The view is from the east. See also 53011/14.
