Sketchbook of travels in Scotland and tour to Kent: p. 2 Doorway St Mary's Wynd, Stirling c. 1894
CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish: 1868 - 1928)
pencil on paper
17.2 x 11.4
inscr. b.: "Doorway - / Stirling"
This grand doorway, when Mackintosh drew it, was 'the entrance to...a very plain house inhabited by working people'. [David McGibbon and Thomas Ross, 'The Castellated and Domestic Architecture of Scotland', (1887-92) vol. 5, p. 17.] At bottom left is a study of the jamb moulding. The building to which the doorway belonged has been demolished. This and the following page were probably drawn at the same time as 53012/3. The page has been inaccurately numbered "4" in an unknown hand.
