Sketchbook of tours in East Anglia and Devon: pp. 42 - 43 West tower, St Mary, North Elmham, Norfolk
CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
pencil on paper
37.2 x 13.4
inscr. c.r.: "NORTH ELMHAM. / NORFOLK.."
The tower is Perpendicular Gothic, dating from around 1400. Mackintosh has drawn it from the south. At bottom right is a detail of the cusped ogee niche above the entrance arch of the south porch. Mackintosh's drawing also includes a study of the base and apex of the spire which no longer exists. The pages have been inaccurately numbered "44 - 45" in an unknown hand.
