Sketchbook of tours in East Anglia and Devon: p. 47 Details of the west tower, St Eustachius, Tavistock, Devon 1898
CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
pencil on paper
18.6 x 13.4
d. and inscr. b.l.: "TAVISTOCK / DEVONSHIRE / 1898"
The 18th-century rainwater head (centre left) is situated on the south wall of the tower. The sketch of the arch represents either the north or the south doorway of the tower. These arches date from the early 14th century, and when Mackintosh visited had no doors attached. The other sketches (top, centre, right and bottom left) are unidentified, but all appear to be studies of a door. The page has been inaccurately numbered "49" in an unknown hand.
