Sketchbook of tours in Kent, Sussex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Perthshire: p. 23 South transept, St Peter and St Paul, Salle, Norfolk
CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
pencil on paper
22.8 x 17.7
inscr. b.r.: "NORTH [sic] TRANSEPT. / SALL [sic] CHURCH"
The south transept of this magnificent 15th-century Perpendicular Gothic church was largely completed by 1441 with embellishments added at the end of the century. The three mouldings (right centre) are from the jamb, mullion and sill of its four light window. The moulding (bottom right) is from the base of a buttress. The page has been inaccurately numbered "25" in an unknown hand. The drawing probably dates to Mackintosh's trips to Norfolk in 1896 and 1897.
