The headstone and its location are unidentified. Mackintosh made a large number of studies of profiles of English headstones, almost all dating from the 18th-century. He maintained that they 'put to shame the designs of architects and others which make the modern graveyard hideous'. ['British Architect', 22 November 1895, p. 360]. The artefact (centre left) may be a device for striking matches. The page has been inaccurately numbered "29" in an unknown hand.
