Sketchbook of tours in Kent, Sussex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Perthshire: p. 13 Westwick Hall, Norfolk
CRE MACKINTOSH, Charles Rennie; (Scottish; 1868-1928)
pencil on paper
17.7 x 22.8
inscr. b.l.: "WESTWICK HALL. NORFOLK."
Westwick Hall is a late 16th-century L-shaped brick house. In this drawing of its west elevation Mackintosh has clearly shown its stepped gables, with a detail at top left. Stepped gables are a common feature of Scottish vernacular architecture. The page has been inaccurately numbered "15" in an unknown hand. The drawing probably dates to Mackintosh's trips to Norfolk in 1896 and 1897 .
