Welcome to this online catalogue of highlights from the collection of William Hunter. Hunter's collection formed the basis of the Hunterian Museum which opened in 1807 at the University of Glasgow. Hunter had assembled one of the greatest Enlightenment collections. He was an anatomist and obstetrician, and his collection included art, books and manuscripts, coins and medals, antiquities and ethnographic material, minerals, and zoological specimens, as well as anatomical preparations.
